24 Aug Boqueron
The community of Boquerón in the department of Quiché is one of the biggest schools we’ve been lucky to work with so far. Boquerón was named after its steep cliffs and valleys. When members of this town heard of a bottle school project going on in the nearby town of La Libertad, the mayor of Boquerón took it upon themself to contact Hug It Forward to inquire about getting help for their elementary school’s lack of secure infrastructure.
Their elementary school has 508 students enrolled that were being taught in 6 classrooms, and some in “galeras” that are simple metal structures. Because of the limited amount of space available to build classrooms, this bottle classroom project will benefit students by constructing 3 spaces, with larger, brighter and safer classrooms made with eco-bricks.
