We facilitate education and awareness around improved trash management methods via the construction of bottle classrooms. Bottle classrooms are constructed using eco-bricks, which are plastic bottles stuffed with inorganic trash. During the project process, entire communities come together to build a more environmentally responsible educational space for their future.
HIF raises awareness about the importance of community empowerment as a driving force towards long-term ownership of every bottle classroom project, proper trash management and the reduction of inorganic waste that plagues communities. Raising awareness is as much a priority to HIF as facilitating community-led bottle classroom constructions.
We visualize a world in which all children have the opportunity to get an education and create a better life for themselves, their families and where people do not mindlessly throw things away.
Our goal is to engage donors and communities to come together and collaborate to create short- and long-term wins for all invested stakeholders. This symbiotic collaboration inspired HIF to share the bottle classroom technology, so that all interested parties can construct their own bottle classroom project using our free open-source, step-by-step Bottle School Manual (BSM).
