Parramos

Parramos

Parramos is the second urban school that Hug It Forward has had a chance to work with. It is located in the department of Chimaltenango, near the infamous colonial style town of Antigua. There are 1500 children enrolled in the elementary school. Because of its large population, classes have to be separated into 900 morning students and 800 evening students.

Even with 23 teachers, 1500 students means that each class has an average of 67 students per teacher and overcrowding is a major issue. With so many students, and a limited amount of space, some of the classrooms were divided with short aluminum walls which does not make for a proper teaching-learning environment since it can get very noisy. Through this bottle classroom project, we hope to help alleviate some of the stresses of overcrowding but constructing 3 classrooms in Parramos.
