21 Oct Xeabaj, Santa Apolonia (phase II)
In the Xeabaj community, access to education has long been a challenge. With a population of approximately 500 people, the local school serves 90 students with only nine teachers, struggling to meet the growing demand for quality education.
Currently, the school has just three small classrooms and a kitchen, all of which serve multiple functions, including a computer area, library, and storage. Due to limited space and high temperatures inside the classrooms, teachers often prefer to hold lessons outdoors.
As the student population continues to grow, the lack of adequate infrastructure has become a pressing issue. Without additional classrooms, students face overcrowded learning conditions, and resources remain stretched thin. The community recognized the urgent need for expansion but, despite numerous requests to public entities for support, was unable to secure the necessary assistance.
When Hug It Forward learned about these challenges, we saw an opportunity to partner with the community to create a sustainable solution. Through collaboration and hard work, new bottle classrooms were built to provide a dedicated learning space, including a computer classroom and additional educational facilities.
This project not only improves the school’s infrastructure but also offers students a more comfortable and supportive environment to pursue their education. Hug It Forward is honored to support the Xeabaj community and is grateful to all who contributed to making this initiative a reality.
