The name of the community comes after a huge tree found in the area. The project (elementary school) will benefit 213 kids, 12 staff members and 108 families in the area.

90% of the families still speak the Mayan language of Kaqchiquel. This is the first bottle school built in this municipality. Many teachers from neighboring communities have visited the school and are currently collecting bottles to build a bottle school in their communities.

The Mayor of San Juan Comalapa (municipality) is working on making it mandatory for all schools to incorporate “eco bricks” into schooling to build more schools and other structures.
