In 2009, a small unitary school in this community began with just 18 students and one dedicated teacher. Over the years, the school grew significantly, and today it serves 60 students with three teachers, each managing two grades.
While the student population expanded, the school’s infrastructure struggled to keep up. The original classrooms were prefabricated, temporary structures designed to accommodate no more than 20 students. Over time, these spaces deteriorated, becoming increasingly uncomfortable and unsuitable for teaching and learning.
The conditions in the classrooms posed significant challenges. During hot days, the small windows provided minimal ventilation, leaving the spaces stifling and uncomfortable. In the rainy season, the classrooms became dark and damp, creating an environment that hindered both focus and productivity.
For years, the community sought support from public and private entities, submitting numerous requests for assistance to improve the school’s facilities. Unfortunately, these appeals went unanswered, leaving the school and its students without the resources they desperately needed.
When Hug It Forward learned about the situation, the organization saw an opportunity to collaborate with the community. Through this partnership, and with the hard work and dedication of the community members, new classrooms are now complete, providing a better learning environment for the students.
Hug It Forward is grateful for the chance to support the community in this effort and appreciates the significant contributions of all involved in making this project possible.
