La Libertad

The community of La Libertad, founded in 2021, is one of the most remote communities in the municipality of San Martín Jilotepeque. The children living in La Libertad did not have access to a local school. Many had to walk over an hour and a half each way to attend classes in neighboring communities.

Despite the community’s ongoing efforts to complete the legal process for establishing an educational center, and multiple formal requests to municipal authorities, support for building classrooms was not granted.

When Hug It Forward learned of these challenges, we saw an opportunity to partner with La Libertad to help make their vision a reality. By supporting the construction of two bottle classrooms, we are contributing to creating a dedicated learning space that offers children and families in the community renewed hope, access to education, and a path toward a better future.
