Environmental education is one of the most important aspects of Hug It Forward’s bottle school program. Collecting plastic bottles and other inorganic trash to make “eco-bricks” cleans up the local environment – but educating youth about the effects of inorganic trash on the environment can change habits and help prevent the environment getting polluted again.
These pictures show Hug It Forward’s environmental education program in two communities, Los Cerritos and Pachay. Gerson, Zohe, Vicky and Nadine from Hug It Forward have been teaching students the difference between organic and inorganic trash, how to protect the environment, and how to turn “trash into treasure”: making art, jewelry and practical items from discarded packaging materials.
