Community members in La Pedrera are excited to see the progress of their bottle school. About half of the 6,200 bottles needed to complete their new two-classroom “básico” (middle school) have already been placed in the walls.
Today a group of 18 volunteers, led by Bethany Webster, are arriving in Guatemala. During their one week voluntourism trip, the group will help place the rest of the bottles in the walls of the school, and start applying cement to the outsides of the walls.
The school is more than halfway complete, and the kids in La Pedrera are looking forward to their first chance ever to attend 7th and 8th grade in their own community.
