Las Joyas

Las Joyas derives it’s name from the very rocky terrain that can be found there, and the first settlers thought that the rocks glistened and looked like jewels when the sun shone down. The current school only had one classroom which was a make shift building with half cinder-blocks and half wooden slabs. During the windy, dusty months, papers and other educational material would blow around and often disrupt class. Because of this, a majority of the students would go to another town to attend school which was a walk of 20 to 45 mins. Because of this lack of quality classrooms as well as shared lesson plans (due the lack of proper infrastructure) enrollment is very low.
