Chuiquisayá

Chuiquisaya is in the municipality of San Jose Poaquil which is located in the department of Chimaltenango. They are known for their cultivation and export of blackberries. This is an indigenous community, 90% of which speak the Mayan language of Kaqchikel, and only 10% speak Spanish. When Chuiquisaya reached out to Hug It Forward, they had 200 elementary school children attending their classes in only 3 classrooms. To alleviate the overcrowding problem, the 2 new bottle classrooms will benefit the students in Chuiquisaya so that they have a better learning environment.
